报告人简介:
Professor Zhang earned his BSc and MPhil degrees from Nanjing University in 1990 and 1993, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2001. Since September 2001, he has been working in the Department of Civil Engineering at HKU, where he is now a Professor. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor in School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology (China), and an Honorary Professor at the School of Public Health of HKU.
Professor Zhang’s main research fields include environmental bioinformatics omics technologies, anaerobic digestion and bioenergy from waste/wastewater, biological wastewater treatment, biodegradation of emerging pollutants, and antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes. His research on these topics has produced over 230 peer-reviewed journal publications, with more than 17,000 citations and an h-index of 72 (Google Scholar). He is one of the “Highly Cited Researchers” (Clarivate Analytics) in 2018. He is an associate editor of Microbiome and Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, and an editorial board member of a few international peer-reviewed journals. He was Yi Xing Chair Professor of Nanjing University from 2013 to 2016. Professor Zhang won a Second-Class State Natural Science Award from the China State Council in 2016, as well as a First-Class Natural Science Award from the China Ministry of Education in 2015.
报告内容简介:
Activated sludge (AS) is widely used as a biological wastewater treatment process for over 100 years and plays an important role in control of conventional pollutants, including suspended solid, BOD/COD, nutrients (N/P), etc. Metagenomic approaches has been widely used to study the high biodiversity of activated sludge microbiome in the past 12 years. With the sub-inhibitory concentration of antibiotics, plus the high microbial biodiversity, high biomass density, fast growth rates, short distance among cells in activated sludge, extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) matrix, well-mixing conditions in the aeration tank, etc., AS has been proposed as important hotspots regarding dissemination of antibiotics resistance genes (ARGs) in environment and consequent exposure to human being and livestock. We have developed metagenomics tools based on 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing for comprehensive analysis of ARGs in AS microbiome and related water environmental. Our results show that AS microbiome is one of the important sources of ARGs and the major resistome located on the mobile genetic elements, like plasmids.
